The Art of Bone Carving

This project explored the traditional craft of buffalo bone carving under the guidance of master artisan Mr. Jalalludeen. Rather than documenting the craft through decorative objects alone, we learned the complete process by creating traditional self-defence tools from ethically sourced buffalo bone. Beginning with the raw material, we experienced every stage from sourcing raw material, cutting, shaping, sanding, bleaching and polishing to understanding the cultural significance behind the craft. What started as working with bone gradually became an exploration of heritage, craftsmanship, and the stories carried by a vanishing tradition.
